ISSA NEWS

Besides honoring the most important women in the world, SDYC observed another Mother’s Day tradition in May by hosting the High School Doublehanded National Championship. The top twenty teams from around the country assembled to vie for ISSA’s coveted Mallory Trophy, setting the stage for a dramatic weekend. Utilizing SDYC’s regionally unrivaled fleet of 24 CFJ dinghies and the ultra-spectator-friendly Cityfront venue; sailors, coaches, and fans were treated to breezy conditions and a nail-biter finish! Congratulation to the Point Loma High School Pointers, who rallied on Sunday to win by one point, capturing their sixth National title!

After three qualifying regattas, the field for the 2014 NESSA Women's Championship (Herreshoff Trophy) is set.

High School Sailing (Interscholastic Sailing Association – ISSA) kicks off the Championship sailing season with the Mallory Championship, in San Diego, CA this coming weekend, May 10-11.  The Mallory Trophy, dedicated in 1930, will determine the best of fleet racing among the 7 Districts represented by 20 schools across the USA.  The best High School sailors will descend upon San Diego Yacht Club with the racing to be held off the city front with spectacular viewing from the Embarcadero.

The Hotchkiss School won the 2014 NESSA Fleet Racing Championship (O'Day Trophy) for its third championship in four years.

In Lakeville, CT, the breeze only allowed the required three races/division.
