ISSA NEWS

The High School Doublehanded Championship brought together 20 schools from across the USA to compete in San Diego Bay on May 10-11. With the venue just off the B Street Pier, and team compounds perched on the edge over the course, it proved to be an epic venue for both sailors and spectators.

The 11-race regatta, sailed in Club Flying Juniors, ended in dramatic fashion. It could not have been any closer. Sharing the details and emotions of the moment is Steve Hunt, coach of the winning Point Loma High School team…

The final set of coach's polls and computer tabulations were wrapped up Monday night and on Tuesday, inviations to the two NESSA Team Racing Championships were distrubuted.

Point Loma HS (CA) and St George's School (RI) go to the wire in 2014 Mallory Trophy.

Tabor Academy came from behind in the final set to win the 2014 NESSA Women's Championship (Rebecca Herreshoff Trophy)

Besides honoring the most important women in the world, SDYC observed another Mother’s Day tradition in May by hosting the High School Doublehanded National Championship. The top twenty teams from around the country assembled to vie for ISSA’s coveted Mallory Trophy, setting the stage for a dramatic weekend. Utilizing SDYC’s regionally unrivaled fleet of 24 CFJ dinghies and the ultra-spectator-friendly Cityfront venue; sailors, coaches, and fans were treated to breezy conditions and a nail-biter finish! Congratulation to the Point Loma High School Pointers, who rallied on Sunday to win by one point, capturing their sixth National title!
