ISSA News

Congratulations to the winners from Newport Harbor H.S.

After two days of racing in Lake Pontchartrain's light and shifty winds, Berkeley Prep (Belleaire, FL)'s team of David Phillips and Scott Ashbaugh won decisively in their first major schools regatta, followed by a one-point spread between second-place Community School of Naples(FL)' s Ryan Shaughnessy and Meredith Pelton and New Orleans' Newman High in third, with brothers Ben and Scott Montgomery racing.

Congratulations to the winning sailors from The Assets School.

Newport Harbor HS repeated last year's performance by winning the 1999 Baker Trophy competition.

The top four finishers in the 1999 ISSA Doublehanded Championship (Mallory) were California high schools, the top three within 18 points of each other after 14 races in each of two divisions. Racing at Grosse Pointe YC in CFJs supplied by local clubs, the winning University of San Diego HS team outpaced the best non-California school by almost 100 points.

Newport Harbor HS(CA) won the third jewel in ISSA's triple crown.

Two days of a smashing northeasterly and driving rain marked the 1998 ISSA National High School Sailing Nationals as a regatta to remember. It also marked firsts for both winners. Neither Milton Academy(MA) which won the Doublehandeds for the Mallory Trophy nor Southern Regional(NJ)l in the Singlehandeds(Cressy ) had ever won either championship in all their history.
