Buffalo Yacht Club


10 teams were in attendance all having qualified through their district eliminations or having received an at large berth. The St Petersburg Yacht Club just recently bought a brand new fleet of J70’s, which were used for the event.


St. George’s School Wins Team Racing Nationals High School Sailing (Interscholastic Sailing Association – ISSA) concluded the spring Championship season with the Team Racing Championship, held May 28-29 in Anacortes, WA. Twelve schools that advanced from seven district qualifiers competed in Club Flying Juniors for the Baker Trophy.


The Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association (NWISA) kicked off the 2016 High School spring sailing season with two regional regattas on March 5th.


We just finished the ISSA Annual meeting last Friday during the Cressy Championships sponsored by Laser Performance being held at Old Dominion University. We had all 7 of our districts represented which is very important as we set various goals for our future. We have stability with our Board members with strong continuity each year as we move forward. This year we awarded Rob Hurd the Geoff Spranger Award recognizing extraordinary dedication and selflessness, and Bill Campbell and Mike Segerblom with the President’s Award for exception service to ISSA. Congratulations to all 3 well deserving recipients.

Congratulations to Paul Didham from Point Loma High for winning the Cressy Trophy in the Laser Full Rig.


The top 36 singlehanded high school sailors from around the country will descend upon the Old Dominion University Sailing Center starting Friday, October 30 to compete in the Cressy High School Singlehanded Championship sponsored by LaserPerformance and the Old Dominion University Sailing Team in Norfolk, VA.


ISSA has achieved 4 records this year: 1. 502 schools registered 2. 5000+/- sailors participating in High School Sailing 3. The Mid Atlantic District (MAISA) is now 100 schools 4. 252 regattas over the 2014/2015 school year - with 3,943 teams competing in 32 weekends in the fall and spring.

UPDATE: While the US has selected an open and youth representative for the 2015 ISAF Team Racing Worlds, July 20-24, we have been offered two more spots in each division. The minimum age requirement for the Youth Division is that all competitors shall be at least 14 years old on 31 December 2015. All competitors entering the Youth Division shall be under 19 years of age on 31 December 2015 (i.e. born after 31 December 1996). Evidence of age shall be submitted to ISAF no later than the close of registration (the ISAF Technical Delegate may extend this deadline).

High School Sailing continues to expand! Just when we thought we had hit our highest number of registered schools, we have exceeded that number. High School sailing continues to be the fastest growing niche in sailing in the United States.

Point Loma HS takes seventh Rose Bowl victory


NWISA's Sehome High School wins the 2012 IMU Regatta hosted by the Kaneohe Yacht Club Thanksgiving weekend.


This weekend the NWISA will host the first Cressy Qualifier at the Columbia River Gorge. One sailor from the full rig and one sailor from the radial rig will advance to the nationals in Long Beach.
